Part 2—The years 1920 to 1964

Since the "Part I -- The Early Years" was written, Fort Valley lodge No. 110 has continued to grow and to spread the cement of brotherly love. Hundreds of brethren have joined our number and hundreds more have visited our Lodge. Needless to say, in the span of time, our staffs have been draped with black crape many times which reminds us that as some join our number and enjoy the fellowship, others are called to that innumerable caravan.

The Lodge continues to meet in the hall on the corner of Church and Macon Streets. The hall has been decorated several times. Carpet has been replaced, lovely drapes adorn our window, air conditioning has been provided.

Fort Valley Council No. 35 Royal and Select Masters and Fort Valley Chapter No. 430, an Order of the Eastern Star, has been chartered in Fort valley and meets in the Lodge room. Needles to say, the ladies have done much to tidy up the place and added kitchen facilities in the outer hall.

The Order of Eastern Star has organized Fort Valley Assembly Order of the Rainbow for Girls and Fort Valley Lodge No. 110 F &AM have obtained letters temporary for the organization of the Tom Bateman Chapter Order of DeMolay for Boys.

Many honorable Brethren have served our Lodge with dignity and integrity in the past years. Brothers W. A. Wood, T. M. Anthonie, Tom Bateman, G. C. Poole, and D. W. Wells to mention a few.

On November 14, 1950, fort valley Lodge No. 110 honored Brother Tom Anthoine for his many years of devoted service as secretary. On this occasion, the Lodge presented Brother Tom a watch as a token of its appreciation.

The Lodge observed Billy Wood Night on December 10, 1963. This occasion was to honor this beloved Brother who had served his Lodge since 1923. His inspiring lectures in all the degrees have left lasting impressions in the hearts of all Masons who heard him. Brother Billy wood was called from our midst January 26, 1968.

Brother Tom Bateman was an outstanding Mason and leader in Masonic and religious affairs. He advanced to state-wide leadership in the York Rite Bodies of Georgia. In 1959, he was appointed Acting Grand Secretary-Recorder of the Grand York Rite Masonic Bodies. Brother Tom was elected to that office by the grand Bodies the following year. In 1962-63, he served as Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Georgia. Brother G. C. Poole assumed the opposition of Grand Recorder during that year.

Brother Bateman died in Macon, Georgia July 19, 1964 and Masons throughout Georgia mourned his passing.

Another outstanding Mason of this decade is Brother D. W. Wells. Brother Wells has served in every conceivable position in Fort Valley Lodge No. 110 and on October 28, 1964, he was elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Georgia. This great honor to this most deserving Brother is truly a point of great pride to Fort Valley Lodge No. 110 and to all Georgia, as well.
